Arne RSPB reserve, Wareham

Wintering waders and raptors

Here at one of the RSPB's finest reserves we should see plenty of birds including the wintering flock of 1,000+ Avocets.
We'll start to see birds as soon as we get out of our cars at this amazing reserve. The car park regularly attracts all the expected woodland species such as Marsh Tit and Nuthatch with rarer species such as Lesser-spotted Woodpeckers and Crossbills also frequently seen. The Sika Deer here are very tame but must not be approached. Sika Deer

From the car park we'll take the Birdwatcher's Trail out to Middlebere Lake. This is the best part of the reserve to see Dartford Warblers but we'll need fine weather to get good views.
From the hide we should see plenty of waders feeding or roosting on the mudflats, hopefully including some of the reserve's huge flock of Avocets. Birds of prey such as Hen and Marsh Harriers often hunt in front of the hide. roosting waders
